Our founding members came from different backgrounds. Fred grew up in Dorchester, Massachusetts while Alice grew up on a small farm near Madison, Minnesota. They shared common values such as dedication to family, devotion to their faith, and an enjoyment of the simple things in life. Through hard work, prayer, and maybe some Irish luck, they found they were blessed beyond their needs. Together they formed the Alice and Fred Wall Family Foundation.
In addition to giving financial gifts through the foundation, Alice gave hundreds of hours of her time, volunteering at church and various other organizations throughout her lifetime.
She even tried giving her social security payments back to the government, knowing that others needed the money more than she did. When that didn’t work, she deposited the checks into an account, and each year at Christmas she wrote checks to every organization that asked, until the account was empty. It became known by the family as The Alice Fund. In celebration of Alice (1931-2016), The Wall Family Foundation memorialized the Alice Fund to support organizations that she loved.
In recent years, Alice and Fred’s grandchildren have directed gifts within the Alice Fund to support organizations of their choice, with the hope of growing philanthropists.
